Should Christians Get Vaccinated?
A Theological Topic I Never Thought I’d Have To Write About
Here in the U.S., health officials have had one major concern since about March, when COVID vaccines became available to the public: not enough people are getting vaccinated. The strategy, from the moment vaccines became available, was to get as many people vaccinated as possible, giving the virus fewer places to go, and allowing us to reach herd immunity quickly and safely. I got my vaccine as soon as I was able to, both doses in April, and for a little while I enjoyed the freedom that the vaccine brought me. Unfortunately, as numbers, including breakthrough cases, began this summer, I pulled back and started to hunker down again. I was disappointed but not surprised that Americans, after such a difficult year, were hesitant about vaccines. Getting Americans to make common sense changes to their country is a massive challenge even at the best of times, and massive amounts of misinformation, as well as basic scientific illiteracy, created perfect conditions for us to flub the end of the pandemic.
I’m going to tip my hand here and say that I believe 100% in the vaccine. That is a controversial statement on the internet, but it’s baffling that that is the case. The vaccine is generally safe. It is built on technology that had been researched for a long time prior…
