Thanksgiving is the Most Fascist American Holiday
In order to be nice all weekend at various Thanksgiving gatherings, it is important to get all of this out and stir the pot in advance. But at least I’ll keep it short and give you something to yell at your racist uncle.
Thanksgiving is the most Fascist American Holiday. It’s worse than the 4th of July, which is mostly just an excuse to drink and blow stuff up. It’s even worse than Veteran’s Day, a gross corruption of Armistice Day, since Veteran’s Day isn’t that obtrusive. No, Thanksgiving is way worse for three simple reasons:
1. It pushes a false national mythology.
False National Mythology is the bread and butter of Fascist history. Ever wonder why it was called the “Third Reich”? What were the first two Reichs? Well, the first was the Holy Roman Empire and the second was the German Monarchy that collapsed after WWI. The Third Reich represented a mythologized attempt to return to and develop upon the first two Reichs. But guess what? The first two Reichs sucked ass. The Holy Roman Empire was a weird loose patchwork of competing kingdoms, dukedoms, and petty fiefs. It was super easy to just twist the politics of the whole thing from the outside if you were savvy enough, and you could be a Prince of it without even having to live in the Empire.
